Are you strength training wrong?
"Brainy What-Why-How"
Your weekly nibble of science-backed goodness to help you move better and feel unstoppable.
🧠
What (the TL:DR)
Strength gains come faster when we train muscles in their lengthened form.
Why (the geeky neurology)
Studies looking at how to train muscles for different things have found that:
- for LEARNING, our muscles better connect to the brain when shortened, but
- for GAINING STRENGTH, our muscles adapt faster when held in their lengthened forms.
How (apply it to your life)
For this reason, it could be most effective to
1️⃣ first train a muscle in its shortened form 🧠
2️⃣ Then load it while it's stretched. I demonstrate how this could look for the hip flexors in this 13-second video.
