Ever fixed your shoulder by teasing your hip? ๐
"Brainy What-Why-How"
Your weekly nibble of science-backed goodness to help you move better and feel unstoppable.
๐ง
What (the TL:DR)
You can ease up your cranky shoulder by.... getting down and dirty with your hips?
Yeah, I said it.
Mobilise your hips, and your shoulders might just moan in relief. ๐คฏ
Welcome to the wild and wonderful world of inter-limb neural coupling โ aka the science-y way of saying your limbs are in a long-distance relationship. ๐
Why (the geeky neurology)
Turns out, your limbs like to whisper sweet nothings to each other across your nervous system.
When one moves (say, your left hip), it sends a little love note to its long-lost partner on the other side (your right shoulder). ๐๐บ
Why? Because weโre wired that way.
Quite literally โ neurons that fire together, wire together ๐ง
Itโs part of the primal dance of walking, crawling, and not falling over in public.
How (apply it to your life)
Each joint has a โpartner in crimeโ โ and shoulders and hips are a total power couple ๐ฏโโ๏ธ
So if your left shoulder is throwing a tantrum, and youโve tried every massage, banded distraction, and TikTok rehab hack in existenceโฆ
try mobilising your right hip.
I know it sounds like sci-fi. ๐ธ
When I first found out about this, I wanted it ***not to work***, just to prove it wrong.
But damn it, it works.
๐ง Itโs just good olโ brainy biomechanics.
### True stories from my bodyโs weird love affairs:
- Right knee pain that stalked me for months? Cured by showing some TLC to my left elbow ๐
- Tight left hip flexor -- soothed by doing things to my right shoulder.
- Lingering left big toe pain (courtesy of one aggressive bed frame)? Sorted out by mobilising my right thumb ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Itโs weird. Itโs wonderful. Itโs annoyingly effective.
If you want to go deep into those nuances, then you're going to want to join my next Functional Neurology Training
Wishing you and your joints the kind of mobility that feels borderline illegal,
Adell xoxo
